What is the vehicle's history? (What is a vehicle history report? Or Does North End Motors offer vehicle history reports?

All of our vehicles come with a FREE carfax. The Carfax is a great resource to see previous owners, if maintenance was performed at a shop that pays Carfax to report their work then you will be able to review that, see if there were ever any titling issues and if there were any accidents reported to Carfax.

Can I get a pre-purchase inspection by an independent mechanic?

Our vehicles are inspected when it arrives at North End Motors to make sure it meets our quality standards. Vehicles that don't meet our high standards get sent back. We understand that to someone not familiar with us, an independent mechanic inspecting the vehicle to give you a run down on the vehicle allows you to purchase with confidence knowing what you have. We will work with you to arrange a pre-purchase inspection and even bring it there for you but we ask you to pick a mechanic within a 10-mile radius of North End Motors, that you read the reviews of the mechanic to make sure you're dealing with an honorable facility and to give us 24 hour advance notice.

What kind or warranty comes with our used vehicles? Are there Certified Pre-Owned options available?

All non-commercial vehicles come with the following. The Massachusetts Used Vehicle Warranty Law is specifically found under M.G.L. c. 90 ยง7N 1/4. This law mandates that dealers selling used vehicles in Massachusetts must provide a written warranty against defects that impair the vehicle's use or safety.

  • Less than 40,000 miles: 90 days or 3,750 miles driven since purchase

  • 40,000 - 79,999 miles: 60 days or 2,500 miles driven since purchase

  • 80,000 - 124,999 miles: 30 days or 1,250 miles driven since purchase

  • More than 125,000 miles: No lemon law warranty

But at North End Motors it's "A Better Way to Buy" because we offer Certified Pre-Owned vehicles. This means a 12 Month or 12,000-mile certification warranty and 1-year maintenance is included on most of our vehicles. Will the vehicle I am purchasing be serviced before I pick it up?

North End Motors uses a used car inspection checklist as part of our dealership reconditioning process which leads to the next question, what do dealerships check on used cars? We start with a multipoint inspection, for most cars it is a 100-point inspection but not all vehicles are the same and have more points to check with some up to 150-point inspection. Regardless if it is a 100 point or 150-point inspection we are going to always inspect the engine, transmission, brakes, tires, oil change, all electronic features like ignition, power windows, door locks, sunroof, stability control, advanced safety features like blind spot monitors, forward collision warning, lane departure and so much more mechanically.

But it doesn't stop there. Every car is professionally detailed, that means washing and polishing the exterior, vacuum and dressing the interior and shining the tires. Just because this is a high quality used vehicle doesn't mean it can't look like new.

Can I trade in my current vehicle, even if I still owe money on it and how is its value assessed?

A lot of people ask how to trade in a car, what is a car appraisal and how do we come up with a trade-in value for a used car. What if I am still making payments for the vehicle I want to trade in? To answer these questions, let's start with how we appraise cars. We physically look at each vehicle individually to assess the overall condition of the exterior of the car, the condition of the interior and just like you do, we are going to take a quick test drive in your vehicle to get an understanding of the mechanical condition of the vehicle.

Once we have a good understanding of the vehicle in its current state, we will research values for vehicles with similar condition, mileage and market demand while using tools like KBB and NADA when it is a vehicle we would sell here. If the vehicle has had its best days behind it then we would look through results from the last 3 weeks at local and national auctions with VIN specific searches to assess what the comparable vehicles are selling for as a guide and then adjust plus or minus for your individual vehicle.

Where do your used cars come from?

A lot of people wonder where dealerships get their used cars from. It is a combination of places but the majority comes from auctions. We source vehicles from the two largest auctions in the market, Adesa which is owned by Carvana and Manheim which is owned by Cox Automotive but you might know them by their other companies, Autotrade, Kelly Blue Book along with many of the tools dealerships use. These auctions are the most reputable sources to acquire vehicles.

All Manufactures list and sell their vehicles through these auctions like, Toyota financial, Ford Motor Credit, Mazda, Hyundai, Jeep, Honda, Mercedes Benz, BMW, GM and finance companies like Capital One, Ally Financial, Bank of America, Wells Fargo and Chase Bank just to name a few. We have a few rules here at North End Motors that not everyone else may have. We will only buy from manufacturers or lenders and we only buy vehicles that come with an auction guarantee.

Why does that make a difference? Well if there are problems with a vehicle that comes in, then we just simply send them back, not just pass them on to our customers. We also don't buy vehicles that are "Lemon Law Buybacks", vehicles that are marked "AS-IS" or vehicles being sold by a dealership. Why don't we buy these vehicles? Well if the vehicle was a vehicle that had to be bought back as a "Lemon" then once a lemon always a lemon. If a vehicle is "AS-IS" then there are problems hence the reason there is no warranty and finally, we jockey with other dealerships to buy these quality vehicles at the auction, with that said it is a red flag when a dealership is willing to send a vehicle to auction instead of selling at their dealership is usually a sign that something isn't right.
