In today’s article we’ll be exploring the fierce competition between two South Korean automotive giants, Kia and Hyundai. Now, both are related to each other, with Hyundai owning a sizable share in Kia. However, in terms of design and engineering, we see more of cousin relationship, with each having dedicated teams that produce noticeable differences. This is seen particularly with the flowing design of Hyundai vehicles versus the sportier look that Kia presents.
First off, sedans. With a variety of models ranging from subcompact to full sized, Kia and Hyundai are both powerhouses in the sedan market. For the subcompact market you have the Kia Rio and the Hyundai Accent, both offer comfortable interiors, easy to understand technology features, and on top of that great fuel economy no matter where you’re driving. However the Rio offers more athletic handling, offering a more responsive and fun drive when compared to its cousin the Hyundai Accent.
Taking a wider step, both figuratively and literally, the Kia Optima and Hyundai Sonata match up in the packed midsized sedan market. Here it seems the Optima is the winner, backed up by its smooth handling, spacious and captivatingly finished interior cabin, and its infotainment system which is markedly easier to use across the entire Kia lineup.
A shift in Hyundai has seen the loss of the Equus in its lineup, this model has moved over to its daughter company Genesis and is now produced as the G90. This leaves Kia unmatched for luxury larger cars. Here the K900 takes the cake, with a beautiful luxurious interior with a console to control features for rear passengers, along with a twin-turbocharged v6 engine and a suite of advanced driver-assist safety features.
As we can see both brands are within a tight race in the sedan market, offering their own advantages in terms of design and features. Here at North End Motors our expert team of sales professionals will be able to help break down how these advantages will affect your day to day throughout your vehicle’s lifetime, no matter which model or brand you do end up deciding to go with.
As always, stay safe and stay healthy this holiday season!
